Has anyone flyfished the BAA section of the Lugg? There is a post in the 'General' section by someone blanking somewhere on the Lugg. I coarse-fished it once last year without success - but I did see an otter, and it seems a really nice quiet little river.
Anyone had any experiences of it?

Hello! It was me that blanked! ;D I think its a stunning river but some of the banks are a bit high and hard to fish in places. I see a lot of wildlife there so blanking is no great heart ache.
I have lots of experience with this river as i have lived by it for about 6 years. Chub get massive, barbel get even bigger, dace used to be plentiful (now less), trout are about 1-2lb, grayling about the same, perch to 1lb and roach about the same. There is also word of the odd salmon parr and there is the odd pike.
BTW I fish a long strech of the Lugg close to Hereford town.

I caught grayling for the first time this spring, on the Dee at Llangollen, mostly on dry fly. I'll give it a go on float and fly on the Lugg. If I can stop myself going after the barbel on the Teme that is

well, i fell over when wading the Dee about 3 weeks ago - nothing more than bending a knee in the wrong direction and getting a wet shirt. But I'm always conscious that you can be in danger when fishing. So how do you want to die? 'Shot by a jealous husband at the age of 75' seems a good alternative.

I don't wade in the Lugg deaper than my knees. In places its VERY powerful. I have watched kids paddling in there and go flying over and down river. They just have to wait until its gets shallow again. Very dangerous i think.

OK maybe this could be a new sport - trying to get a drowning kid in your landing net as they get swept past. Double points if they are unconscious - this isn't in bad taste is it ?
