Heres a good site for knot tying. LinkDoesnt have the water knot but you can also use the blood knot its just a little more work.

If you are using flourocarbon for the tippet, best to try a stiffer one like Fulling Mill rather then a floppy one like Riverge - it will help the dropper stand out more and less tangles, although tangles will happen nonetheless..

I'm currently using FM Flourocarbon in heavier b/s makes a massive difference in reducing tangles and doesn't seem to bother the fish in all but calm weather. 3 turn water knot, no problems. Droppers typically at 5' intervals. I cut the line that runs down the leader off having made the water knot keeping the dropper that runs up the leader as it were.

BUTTER FINGERS...was going to say that the dropper length and distance between is one of great debate and my only advice would be learn to cast well with one fly then one dropper etc and increase length of leader and dropper spacings step by step...long leaders and spacings of 5' will aid presentation but in tricky wind situations will drive you mad with tangles...trial and error is the key. ps you can always tell the wife that its not the fishing so much this weekend but a continuing study into line behaviour ;0

In response to timmo...the line running down towards the point is the one to use for the dropper....other wise increased risk of snapping occurs..

I think you're right about snapping line but I don't have a problem using the top line. Everybody I know including some very experienced anglers use the top line. I guess there are as many using both so take your pickā¦

I know they always say use the line running from the main section but quite frankly I have rarely had a problem using either section to form the dropper. I space droppers by holding the butt of the leader in one hand and extending both arms out fully to my sides giving me the length to where the dropper is tied ie approx 5'. I tend to use traditional double blood knots and maxima nylon.
