I'm going to the River Almond at Crammond near Edinburgh this evening for a recce on the water there.
Anyone on the forum an Almond regular? It would be good to know what kind of fly activity has been hatching recently.
And what of the sea-trout potential near by?
Cheers
Nick

I learned to fly fish on the Almond further up and it was the local 'bigger' river as compared to the many burns we used to dangle worms in.
Haven't fished it for several years now due moving further east, and don't know much about fly hatches of late - the water is considerably cleaner than when I used to fish it so expect the usual hatches at the usual times. There are a few threads on the Almond on the wildfishing forums which you might wish to investigate. It holds some very good brown trout and fishing pressure is fairly light as far as I know. Cramond can be good for sea trout, and additionally has a reasonable salmon run in the autumn - the fish pass just above the tide has been improved recently so fish might not necessarily hang about there as long as they used to. For numbers of and individual size of fish, the Tyne further down the coast is up there with the best, though the fish are notoriously difficult to catch. However, it is the best place to see quality fish.
