As my Mayfly trip fast approach's I find myself going through my Dry fly box's and crying in dispair at the, flattened hackles, crooked wings, oily/sticky look due to over use from floatants.
However i do have a way of breathing new life into them, which im sure a lot of members here use, but maybe new guys dont. So heres the tip Its simple its fast its effective.
Just bring a kettle to the boil and as the steam escapes hold the dry in the steam with a pliers for a few secs and watch as the hackles, wings and tails straighten themselves.
It works fine and for the next few days I will be giving all my old favourites a proper steam cleaning in hope they re pay my TLC

And here is me thinking you had discovered a remedy for Cothi !! Very good Gnat. Stylie, thanks for the tip, much appreciated. I will reciprocate. Here are the first two paragraphs of your post in a different form. "As my Mayfly trip fast approaches, I find myself going through my Dry fly boxes and crying in despair at the flattened hackles, crooked wings and the oily/sticky look due to over-use from floatants. However, I do have a way of breathing new life into them, which I'm sure a lot of members here use but maybe new guys don't. So, here's the tip. It's simple, it's fast and it's effective."

Last time I put my flattened flies over the boiling jug was at my in-law's house. My Farther in-law was very impressed. He told me the 'old boiling jug trick' worked great for the common cold. Simply put your face over the steeming kettle for a minute or so and breath through your nose. Maybe thats why he's got a head on him like an baboons arse... red swollen and angry looking! I've heard of boiling water, a little vic, and a towel over your head for a common cold, but not put your head over the bloody jug and boil away like a pot of fish heads. He also puts cold tea bags on his eyes for styes... slap that on ya, straight out of last night's cold brew. A tea bag on the swollen eye, a head like a bloody bunion. The wife made me try the teabag when I got conjuctivitis. Said it worked for her 'good old dad (step toe)'. I can't wait till I can put him in the home! J.
