Hi xxxfarsing, I have fished it on a few occasions for winter grayling but Highlander (www.thehighlanderway.com) who frequently posts on here is the man to speak to. There are a few others too but i cant remember who, no doubt you'll get a few replies Its a great wee river and reasonably close enough for me so i should really fish it more often. Anyway, try the Bridge of Weir Angling Clubs website : www.river-fishing.org.uk/home.htmSitemap is on the left hand side. Hope this helps Clydebuilt

Hi xxxfarsing
Grew up fishing the river, mainly Kilmacolm and Brdige of Weir stretches...never fished the Abercorn Stretch though.
Assume you are going for Trout / Grayling at the mo? (there is a reasonable grilse run but won't be any decent head of fish until July).

I am not currently a member (used to be in Strathgryffe) however my understanding is you have to be from the general area to get memebership for BoW, however there is a priority for BoW residents.
You can get day permits however this excludes weekends. Used to sell them in Duncans the Newsagents (recently closed) but think Sarwars Newsagents in BoW has now taken over. The Strathgryffe A.A have the rights over Kilmacolm and you used to get permits from the Cross Cafe in Kilmacolm (think they allow weekends?).
I prefer the BoW section and there is a lot of variety...fast shallow sections, waterfalls and some deep slow glides.
Sure there will be plenty of fish in the Abercorn section mind...have to bear in mind that the water is still quite cold at the mo. Try bouncing a weighted nymph such as a goldhead along the bottom? In the faster sections the old boys who fished Kilmacolm section always swore by spider patterns (in particular black spiders). They would almost fish these exclusively...though in the deeper sections, esp early season, I would want to get the fly down.

Hello, Here is a link for info & permits. www.river-fishing.org.uk/Members_form.htmThe club is open to all but preference is give to Bridge of Weir residents. I come from Erskine about 10 miles away so I am an associate member. Apply to the secretary as stated on the link. A nice stretch of water with nice Trout & the occasional Salmon late season. Tight Lines

Try between the weir and green bridge in Houston village. Never seen another angler on this stretch because it's difficult to get to, but worth picking your way thru the undergrowth to reach a few nice pools. Had a couple of decent fish so far this season and enough little 'uns to keep me interested. Kate McLaren and Bibio have done the trick.

thanks all for the reply, on the abercorn section got an 8lb salmon and 4 brownies 4 returned including the salmon 1 brownie decided 2 take the whole fly right down PITY as i like to return all fish to get higher stocks. Why dont all anglers return fish for upto one year to allow them to breed so we can all have better sucsess?

Well done. First salmon I've heard of this season on abercorn water, though I haven't been for a few weeks. Where did you get brownies and on what?
