Hi Guys, Heard somewhere that there was a fly fishing day for Pike on the 21st. Does anybody have any info on this? I'd like to go but I thought the lake was closed till march. Thanks, Glynn

As before, entry is free and there will be a variety of things of interest to anyone who is already a pike fly fisher or would like some help and advice to get started. Sportfish Reading is close to junction 12 on the M4 at Theale west of Reading. I went to this event last year. There was no Pike Fishing going on. Sportfish staff were giving short (but FREE) casting lessons to anyone interested. There were a few special offers available in the shop (but they may have been left-overs from the Winter Sale) and there was a talk on Flyfishing for Pike and demonstrations on tying Pike Flies. Sportfish provided a free buffer and I had a pleasant afternoon. Flyer received in post today from Sportfish:The event is being run in conjunction with the UK Pike Fly Fishing Association and will feature product demonstrations by leading manufacturers and special guest John Horsey, pike expert from Chew valley Lake, who will share his insights on Pike fly-fishing. The event will also feature: - Special offers on tackle and outfits to get you started
- Casting demonstrations with Pike fly rod
- Fly tying demonstrations with Pike flies
- Free casting tuition. 10 minute clinics with a Sportfish instructor
- Advice from experts on techniques and tackle suitable for Pike
- Free refreshments
The store opens at 09.00 with casting demonstrations, talks and free tuition running throughout the day I hope to be there from about mid-day

If pike on the fly floats your boat, then talk to Stuart at Fly Only, or look on their web site. He is really affected by these fish. They are the only shop I know that actively go out searching for new materials from sources that are not always associated with fly tying. I am not joking that man is an inspirational fly tyer when it comes to pike flies, and if you go to the shop you will see the results of his and his mate Rickys efforts in the photos on the walls. I know this looks like blatant favouritism, but it makes a refreshing change to get advice from someone that actually gets involved, and does not sit on the sidelines thinking that they know it all. He will not like me talking about him like this, as he unlike so many others does not have an ego problem. he is just a good bloke trying to make a living out of his passion.
