I am confused - I have tried to put in Dickie Bird (Yorkshire umpire) and it changed it to Thingiey. Thinking there is a censor I tried Penistone - which it typed correctly.
MMmmm Scunthorpe is in south Yorkshire?

If it is in striking distance of Lancashire then I would be happy to come over the border to join you for a day's fishing.
Do we have a time & venue yet?

Right were on ;D I have secured the access to a site with the amenities we need.Namely, A Bar, Camping facilities, BBQ facilities and even hard standing for the caravanners among us. Oh and it sits on the river Calder! ;D ;D ;D I am looking at a date later in the year rather than early and wondered if the first or second week of September met with the majorities approval? I think a Friday to Sunday evening with the main event on Saturday night (quiz, beer, food etc). So far we appear to have interest from: Nicepix MickeyP Tango51? Mantog Spider Captain Alan B Deanz2000 Spy1 Madcaster Bucko Job67 Rodsnapper Seaweed Fenton Seems like a goodly gathering. The Fishing available locally is all on rivers such as the Calder, Colne, Aire etc But there is no reason why some members cant organise a short trip across to Stocks or Raygill or one of the other local Stillwaters. I shall finalise a date soon. Any feedback welcome. Gary

Sounds excellent, I'll save a couple of holidays or take a sicky. ;D Does the campsite allow dogs, or will the wife have to stay at home?

Even better. What flies for that time of year on there? I'll tie some, save me pinching AlanB's fly box. Could you please book a caravan pitch for me.

Ill post all details and dates when the confirmation comes through. The rugby club owners are more than welcoming and will open the bar as we need as well as providing all camping facilities. This is not the only event put on by the hosts so they are fully aware of what to expect and its nowhere near residential property. Gary

Sounds good Gary and I can vouch that there is plenty of river within a short walk of the campsite. Having fished it yesterday I was surprised at how big the Calder is. Certainly as wide as the lower Wharfe around Boston Spa and with good depths between the shallow gravel runs. There were fish rising along the length and one even obliged my grey Klink' (Thanks AlanB). We also caught, using other methods including the 'bug on the bottom' and 'down and across'. For those bringing their loved ones, you can walk them around the playing fields on the river bank, and send the wives off to Halifax to visit the Piece Hall and Victorian Market. Should a child be found in your luggage we would recommend confining them to the Eureka exhibition which is a science based 'hands - on' learning facility. And there's a textile museum for those of us who can still remember the heady smell of Dundee jute. As Fred Pontin used to say:- "Book early!"
