Hook & Hackle seem to have lost the plot since the change of ownership. I e-mailed a similar request two weeks ago and have yet to receive a reply. When Bob was in charge you would get an answer very quickly - sometimes, if it was in their working daytime, within minutes. Not answering e-mails when you are running an internet business is a silly way to operate. Dave.

Hi,
Would not buy anything from them at the moment. Have been waiting several months now and their order system appears to be a shambles. Something to do with me refusing to pay the import duty + VAT invoice from the good old customs people. Never received an invoice and now getting no response from H&H!

Shame they have gone down like this. Used to be one of the best to get good advice and to buy from apart from having, usually, the lowest prices.
Dave.

essexalan,
your problem might not be with H & H . As I understand it, H M Customs & Excise assess packages from overseas for vat and import duty - H & H have no control over this. You seem to be aware that the issue is vat & import duty - should you not be addressing the issue with Customs & Excise? If you won't pay you can be sure C & E won't release the package!

Blankedagain is completely right, its not a concern of HandH if you havent paid the duty, theres nothing they can do.
I am surprised you havent seen any paperwork with charges on, normal procedure is for it to arrive at customs>>the value is checked and customs price the item>> Forwarded to you with costs to be paid to the delivery bloke by cheque.
Thats how I did things anyway.

How would Hook & Hackle know that he hadn't paid the duty?
Wouldn't have thought Customs & Excise would tell them.
Would they know from their carrier?

Hi Folks,
Now here's an area where I am gaining a lot of experience as a new importer of american fishing tackle and parts (riversiderodcraft.co.uk) I don't know Hook and Hackle but they will most likely use their 'national' post company to ship their goods. This means Parcelforce will pick them up at the airport handle customs and take the parcel to your nearest depot (they can take between 3 days and 2 weeks to do this!). Then they will send you a letter saying they have your parcel and will send it to you once you pay the tax and duty to them (plus handling £13.50). Only then will you see your parcel.
It's a dreadful system from a truly dreadful company and I'm not surprised if Parcelforce have not sent you any correspondence.
I normally have to chase them for a week after my goods have cleared customs and often end up driving 40 milesto the depot.
If you get the shipping number from your suppliers Cstoms can tell you if its cleared and who has it now, they are usualy very helpful.
That's my soap box bit over.
Cheers

After waiting a month for my blanks to arrive I e-mailed Ron at H&H asking if they had been shipped. After some delay I e-mailed him again. I was then informed by him that I had refused to pay the Customs invoice! He even offered to pick this bill up himself, a plus point. I then told him I had not received an invoice let alone refused one, what was going on? Eventually I asked for a contact name or shipping number in C&E or with the shipping people involved. He then admitted that he was confusing me with somebody else! He would try and sort it from his end. Now communications with H&H were bad to say the least and there was a considerable delay waiting for responses to my e-mails. And no I was not rude or anything else other than very polite! Blankedagain - I am quite aware of the procedure involved when buying goods from the US and have perfectly willing to pay any outstanding amounts. I am only repeating the information I received from H&H. How can I possibly take anything up with C&E when I am unable to get any shipping information out of H&H! Once again I would state that you deal with H&H at your own risk. I have received good service from them in the past but I only ever give mail order companies one chance. Unless they come up with my goods, a way of getting my goods or a refund very shortly then they will be off my list of suppliers. Regards Alan

essexalan,
only tried to help - your awareness of practices of C & E wasn't apparent from your initial post. Hope you get your kit.
