It's an idea I've been discussing with Simon - the plan is that we'll be publishing details of late availabilty, cancellations etc. - giving forum users the chance to book fishing that would either be hard to access or would normally cost more.
Just something we're experimenting with.
Cheers,
Invicta

Why can not such offers go in classifieds? Why can one not respond to the threads, or in fact post offers of our own?
One could be of the opinion that it is a travel agent folder for the mods of this board to make some cash. I am sure that such an opinion is false of course.

I'm sure everyone will agree that these forums should not be turned into some kind of souk, where travel merchants . . . Sorry. Lost my train of thought there while I was booking a week in Iceland. At a very attractive price, I might add. Now where was I? Grouse

I agree with Sewinman. In my view, this is an unfortunate development and one which does not enhance the forum in any way. The purpose of the forum is to allow members to discuss fly fishing, or so I thought. To have a section on a public forum in which members are not permitted to post messages is unacceptable. Posts such as the one advertising fishing in Russia should be posted in the classified section. Or the advertiser might wish to pay for a banner at the top of the board (if there's any room left).
I hope that this experiment will be short lived.

Yep, agree. This 'service' should be in classifieds or we will have too many headings and posts get watered down. It takes enough time to browse the differant cat' as it is.

does not enhance the forum in any way I couldn't disagree more, enhancing the forum is exactly what this is about. Getting access to last minute deals or picking up unwanted rods on elite or expensive waters all too often relies on an active grapevine, or "knowing someone who knows someone", or simply being in the right place at the right time. Personally I'd be very pleased to see the forum expanded in this way. And if someone make a bit of dosh on it, well, I can't see a problem. They make, you save, game over. Then you go fishing Go for it Invicta. Russ

To be honest I make most of my bookings on a last minute basis. This new thread may be of use, it may not. I can always decline to view it if I wish.

Agree with Russ and BH on this one. A section that benifits travelling anglers, and is easy to access is fanastic. A great service for regular forum members. Especially for those members who travel to destinations on a budget every year due to kids or a wife with expensive tastes. Like when you say to the wife I'd like to go for a week to Corrib for the Mayfly and she says you could get a romantic weekend in rome cheaper! Now I say... AHA YOU CAN"T BEAT THIS ANGLING DEAL, GO SUCK EGGS I"M OFF FISHING AND NOT BREAKING THE BANK! ;D Anyway the more angling travel accessed by forum members, the more angling tales and photos we can share on this forum, what goes around comes around! J.

Errr guys are we discussing the same thing here? I have nothing against last minute deals/destination fishing...what I am against is a mod. only folder where normal posters can not post or reply. The Simon Lewin Travel folder. Given the amount of stick we have given people for 'spam', it is surely unfair to tolerate this?
We already have classifieds where such offers have been posted before. Why the need for this experiment?

I also agree with Sewinman. Any posts made in "Last Minute Trips" will be commercial. The " Classifieds" forum was set up to allow commercial posts and that is where such posts belong. I suppose that if Invicta and Simon want to 'spam' the site there's nothing to stop them - they're the 'Boss', but it seems a touch hypocritical to do so. Interesting also to note that this site now has a 'Moderator', see : flyforums.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=lastminute&action=display&thread=1147384912Dave.

Of course it will enhance the forum and so what if someone makes a few quid. If the offers are not genuine deals then nobody will want them. Lets say for example FG that three days before your Iceland trip you have to cancel and are unable to recoup deposit/costs etc. Surely the forum is an ideal place to sell the trip considering your audience. Would you rather lose out and don't you think members would like to make you an offer for it? It could go in classifieds but it's down to Invicta and I for one would be happy to pick up a bargain. Gillaroo The whole point is that Grouse would not be permitted to post his information in this new section, which is reserved for the exclusive use of Simon Lewin and his (presumably paying) advertisers. This is not a part of the forum. It is an advertising space, on which members are not permitted to post.
