Just watch the programme Great British Menu. One of the chefs claimed to be cooking sea trout. It looked to me like a sea farmed rainbow trout not a wild sea trout.
Did any one else spot this. should sea raised rainbow trout be called sea trout at all.

This has cropped up before in the catering trade and sea reared rainbow trout used to be called "salmo trout" to distinguish it from sea trout. This was slightly confusing as an older name (misnomer) for sea trout was of course salmon trout and this name was much used by the catering trade long after it went out of use with anglers.

I'm glad you brought that up richard. I was a bit confused when I saw the "sea trout" and wondered if it was time for me to get some glasses.
Fresh dogfish is quite good to eat. Huss is even better.

I was served "sea trout" in a resturant of a very well known pub near Dublin a few years ago, when i complained that it was rainbow trout the manager apologised and confided that nobody had noticed before Noel.
