hopefully if stead goes to the world cup, he might suffer a bad injery out ther and not be able to play for sunderland and we might acually have some one who can score goals to put us back in the prem next season.
ps really i think crouch or deffoe

But when we bought him his goals helped us stay in the premier league. It's a pity it hasn't worked out for him because he's a nice fella. I think Beatie & Deffoe Cheers GM

It's a difficult one, and Rooney will be a big miss I think.
If a hard-working 'line-leader' type is needed for a changed formation with one outright forward, then it's a choice between Crouch, Ashton, Bent and Beattie. Crouch wins in terms of International experience, Bent is a better finisher.
As Owen is not fully match fit, I really think there's a case for Fowler. He's fitter than for years, fresh, experienced and a natural goalscorer; at the very highest level he can do it, not bottle it.
I'd take Lennon anyway as a 'wild card'.

Being a Gooner I am disqualified from this discussion but have no fear Rooney will play and probably Owen as well. Rooney is young, he's a tough little so and so and he will mend quickly.
Honestly can you imagine any twenty year old given the chance to play in a World Cup NOT being fit in time.

Dont write off Owen.
I think if Owen is fit the World Cup is still possible.

striker poll i see there's not much interest in who goes to Germany. English interest seams to be "waning" already
