And the new doors and floors and hardwood dining-table. Why? Well, sorry to be going all "Sting" on you, but try this: news.independent.co.uk/low_res/story.jsp?story=421842&host=3&dir=507And the possible consequences of these far-off forests' going? To us? You could try this: news.independent.co.uk/low_res/story.jsp?story=421166&host=3&dir=507So, what can WE do about it, aside from buying responsibly (or not at all) and shooting celebrity home-improvement TV-presenters on sight? Try clicking the free "Donate" button on the site linked below (and the one on its sister Hunger Site) daily. It would be a start. www.therainforestsite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CTDSites.woa/142/wa/gotoSite?destSite=RainforestSite&origin=thstab&wosid=fR3000mJ500NW700z2&revisionCode=ON_THS_TRS_TabEdit addition -- This outfit -- the World Land Trust -- is sound, too. You can even help it buy further chunks of environmentally sensitive land around the world, and to have them managed by LOCAL people. I have seen the place the Trust has on the Peninsula Valdes in northern Patagonia (not southern, as stated on their site), the famous beaches where orca killer whales all but beach themselves when attacking seals and sea lions. Doing some good work with rainforest, too. A trustworthy trust, I believe -- not on some buy-up-everywhere mission. www.worldlandtrust.org/index.htm

Grim reading. can anyone provide a statistic on the amount of ancient forest Timber, entering the U.K. each year?
Here in yorkshire, most construction or furnishing is crafted from the deciduous MDF
