This is probably a good start anyway as it makes it easier to get your casting sorted to begin with. I know Milton well (my wife went to primary school there for a year or two). Not too far away there's a fishery at the back of bearsden - avoid it as it's a cement lined hole in the ground and looks like a muddy swimming pool (I forget the name). Likewise I seem to remember there is a hole in a farmers field underneath some power cables in or near Milton - again it's horrible to avoid. For a decent small still water I'd go to Swanswater near Stirling. Probably 20-30mins from you by car and has some good variety and nice views over the surrounding hills. See: www.swanswater-fishery.co.uk/I also believe that North Third and Carron Valley reservoir (again similar distance from you) are very good larger still waters. I'd recommend trying to find a boat partner to take you along for your first outing. To this end I'll post to a few of the local guys to see if anyone would be able to offer you an outing. Okay, now the rivers. You're a lucky beggar living up there and should take full advantage of the reasonably prices wild brownie and migratory fishing available. I'd recommend you look at the Kelvin Angling assoc. - ask in Caffaro Bros in Glasgow for your £10 season long permit for miles of river fishing! Not always picturesque but wild fish and challenging. Then there are loads of great rivers for brownies, sea trout and salmon in the lomond area and stirlingshire. For this I'd have a look at John Grays new website: www.trout-salmon-fishing.com This is an amazing website and John who created it posts on here so PM him if you have any other questions (John's a very helpful chap). In terms of flies, for the rainbow stuff you can take all variations, but then an olive gold head damsel won't go far wrong in most stocked still waters. For the wilder fish whether in Carron or in the rivers, I'd ask advice. Again I'd suggest going along to Cafaros bros in Glasgow as they'll spend loads of time with you and not try to rip you off. Hope that gets you started Bri
