Hello,
I arrived not long time ago in England to work in Essex (I am from France). I would like to know if any one can show me where and how fly fishing in rivers not to far (about 2 hours) from where I am Basildon. I fly fished for 20 years on French little stream. I've been twice at hanninfiled but I am not very good and not equiped for reservoir fishing.

Pierre, There is not much river trout fishing where you live but another member, Rich, does do some. If you pm him I am sure he will tell you more.
Nearest small stillwater to you is Chigborough, which is pretty good and another forum member, Haul a Gwynt is a regular there and very helpful.
I fish often at Rib Valley which is a medium sized water and very good, about one hour from you near Hertford. Happy to take you there and show you how to catch on a stillwater if you like - you do not need to cast very far at Rib.
I also parles un peu Francais, but I'm sure your English is better than my French.

Thanks for the answer Charlie, That would be nice if we can show how to catch on still water. I have only a 9' 5wt rod can it do it ? Pierre

Pierre, certainly - a 5 weight is the weapon of choice for many better stillwater anglers than me. I also have three 7 or 8 weights so you can have a go with one of them if you wish. Here is Rib's website : www.ribvalleyfishinglakes.com/news,_prospects.htm I will be their pretty much any weekend in November, so just let me know when you would like a trip. We might be able to interest a few other local Forum members, such as Mr. and Mrs. Pirate, Starsky, Haul a Gwynt, Beat3 etc. Charlie

Mick, I only bank fish there - it's just ten acres, although there are a few rowing boats and an electronic wheelyboat.
Come and join us on the 19th - I think Pierre parles Anglais pretty well. Stewart and Martha are coming this Sunday so I'll post how it fished. It's £18 for 1 fish plus C&R and a boat is a fiver.
When does Pitsford shut ?

For angling in Essex, the Billericay & District Angling Club have some nice looking waters. I know nothing about them and cannot speak for the fishing or presence of fish... though there are certainly trout on some bits of the Pant. www.bdac.co.uk
