Q
How did you get on and can you hire a boat with an engine! Just back from donegal - nothing much doing because the rain fall wasn't high enough - just small browns. Plenty of fish in the system though (Owenna)

hard to get an engine on the rosses. best bet is to bring your own. charlie bonnar who issues permits won't give you one but there may be others in dungloe who will.
the owenea has plenty of fish in it then? Will be down that way in a few weeks, might give it a throw. i love that beat 8

Excuse my involvement as I have nothing to contribute. It's just that I was living in Belfast in the mid 1970s and was a regular visitor and fly angler in Donegal. The name has great resonance for me. It is one of the most special places I have ever been in. Perhaps at that time, it was to escape Belfast and find a special peace? Maybe so but I never felt that - not too socially perceptive perhaps? All I know is that as a Welshman, I just felt at home and was always warmly welcomed. That is true of all of Ireland by the way, north and south. I intend to go back one day and take my son. Whether he wants to go or not

The Owenea mainly. The Finn on the way over. Also lots of loughs and streams I can't remember the names of now. Peat fires. Bright light. Good people. God's country.
