Myself and 10yo son new to fly fishing and have been trying the White Cart in Glasgow with hardly even a bite. Anyone in area willing to spend a day helping us out or can you suggest other places to try. Do not have own transport so must be easy to get to. Tight lines.

The White cart is an excellent river. Despite running through some bad area's, its full of fish. It takes time when learning fly fishing to regularly catch fish. Take your time, pay your dues, and the fish will come. As for other rivers, the Black cart is good. It runs through howood, so you can get the train to howood station and its literally two minutes from there. permits available in the Village shop. Quite an easy river to fish, slow flowing, and holds big trout. My advice to learn is start with a wet fly, such as an Alexandra or Gizmo, (fairly large, e.g. size10/12) fished across and down. youll pick fish up that way.

think you need permits for everywhere in scotland now!. as for the newbie try the river gryffe its a good river and gets stocked regularly theres also buses that will take you there from paisley, its a fiver a day to fish and you get some good brown trout in it,also if you go there try a hares ear weighted nymph its the only fly i use and i catch all the time
