In the closed season I clean all my kit replace and repair any kit that needs it and hit the tying vice. What do other competition anglers get up to? ;D

Try to get through enough work in the next 5 months, get my figures high enough to justify my total lack of interest, and clear intention of doing f*ck all in the way of work between March and mid-October of next year.
Oh, and tie a few flies too.

Sorry simmo, not so regimented as you soldiers! I only tie flies when the need arises and during winter, my tackle only sees the light of day when there's a rise on! (ooh-er!)!
In the winter I tend to drive up the brownie points with "her indoors" so that I can have free reign the next season. Usually go off for a couple of city breaks with her - Madrid next month - and maybe a winter holiday some where reasonably warm!
I do some organising of the next years fishing forays to Ireland and etc.
I also spend time with my 2 boys following our football team the length and breadth of the country. Not always seeing the team win but we have a good time none the less!
Then - back to flicking a fly again! Good life ain't it!

Hmmmm. You'll have to excuse me for my ignorance but what is this'Close Season'? The comps for this year finally finished last weekend and fishing goes on. It's Grayling time now.
Flies are tied as and when needed. Tackle is a mess as always.
That's how it's always been - Ain't life grand!!

Know exactlly where your comming from, If I told my wife I was going to take up a winter hobby I would end up as next years fertilizer for the garden. Flytying it is then ;D

There's usually a still-water open somewhere near me more or less right throughout the year.
If we get a nice fresh sunny day, then I'll venture out.
I also fish for grayling (when you can get on the river) and barbel when the weather and conditions are right.
With regards fly-tying, I'm not as addicted or disciplined as some of the members on the forum, and just tie when I need to top up my supply, or add to the range. I also find that unless I do tie on a regular basis it takes a while to back up to speed and remember how I tied the patterns.
Must add, I need to spend some quality time with my wife, son, and daughter.
