If i was to fish for bass this year on the fly i wouldnt really want to go out and buy completely new gear so would mainly have to compromise and use my usual trout reservoir gear which is a 10' 7# bloke rod, and a Greys GTX reel with several lines in 7/8 the only thing is i dont want the saltwater to wreck my gear obviously as i use it often.
What im tryign to find out is will this gear by ok to use in the salt? Also im in south wales so have the advantage of the Gower etc but wouldnt have a clue, after reading a few posts i notcie people are very hush hush about their marks etc, why is this? its not as though its going to get shoulder to shoulder on the banks, there must be plenty of space etc. so i ask is there any areas shall we say thats ok to SWFF in the south wales area?
thanks welshy

As long as your gear gets washed properly after use it should be fine. The only problem I can see is if the reel seat on your rod is one with the wooden insert, as this will swell and distort in sea water.
There's a simple reason for keeping marks to yourself. Whilst there's miles of coast, there is not miles of good swffing water. A good productive mark can be a rare beast. There's no-one restocking, no one restricting the number of anglers and make it to well known then the 'hobby' netsmen will clean it out in no time. Several of the spots I fish have a very small productive area where even two anglers fishing would be cosy.
