Hi Livio, welcome to the forums, you will find them very educating... lots of knowledge here.... First of all: your reel should be fit for saltwater, as should your reelseat: wood inserts are sooner or later eaten by the salt, and unfit reels will be coroded within a few hours after you start fishing. A heavier rod may come in handy, there's usually plenty of wind at the seaside.... Several kinds of lines: usually sinking lines with different sinking speeds. Hope this helps for a start, more info will come from other members.... Cheers, Hans.

Livio,
The fishing in Christchurch harbour is controlled by CAC and Davis tackle sell the day tickets. They should be able to help you with the spots to try.

Hi Livio,
if you are using freshwater gear make sure you rinse it thoroughly after each trip. a 7/8 weight will do just fine on all but the windiest days.
i would not use a sinker but a floating line or preferably a clear intermediate with a 9 foot leader with a 10lb tippet.
