I am new to fly fishing but I have certainly caught the bug. Until recently I didn't realise that you could saltwater fly fish and I've been told that it's possible to fish around the Southampton area (Warsash, Hamble etc). Has anyone been fishing in this area? If so would they mind sharing the whereabouts of the location?
Thanks in advance
Salty

Hi Salty It is not considered good practice to discuss SWFF marks on an open forum because many people suspect that commercial netsmen also scan the pages for information. Need I say more? ;D Having said that, I have found that once people get to know you they will often be only too willing to share information with you via a PM. Sadly, I know nothing about SWFFing along the Hampshire coast. Allrounder ;D

Salty,
You'll find plenty of Mullet up the Hamble. Finding them is easy.......it's the catching them that's tricky. There will be Bass about too, but to be honest I reckon there's probably better Bass fishing to be had on the more open areas in the Solent.
Martin.

Both have similar seasons although Bass can be caught all year round. Late May/Early June should see the action kick off, but September, October and even November are generally accepted as the best months.

Welcome Salty, the best time for bass will be from mid/late May onwards although you may find schoolies ( bass under 3lb) around harbours and warm water outflows beforehand. the general advice is look for structure and a bit of current - bass like river fish like their food to come to them Ed Mitchells' book "Fly Rodding the Coast" is a good read while you're waiting for the water to warm up.
