Will be based at Penzance for a week sometime during June/July, any idea's for good places for Saltwater Flyfishing, anywhere within 30 miles of Penzance would be ideal.

The rocky gullies between pz and Mousehole are worth a chuck with a fly. They tend not to fish well by day . Junes a strange month down here for saltwater . But the rewards are out there .If your in the right place at the right time

the migration begins to the South east of cornwall
mevagissey / lizard and makes its way westward over the year. cullminating in a feast that the commercials have around Christmas towards the west
£17,000 from one boat(The Pascoe brothers) on New years eve. Just net a bay when the Bass shoal up ready to migrate to the spawning grounds and wipe the lot out
Sorry to turn a happy thread into a sad one but if a few people on this forum got of thier assses and helped with something that mattered like standing together as sportsmen and women rather than bickering about rubbish then perhaps these things would not need saying
The sad thing is that if I mentioned bloke rods or trout poppers then there would be a responce. The response from the members of this forum in relation to the imminent end of the consultation process on Bass management has been weak and no more than I would have expected from a place possibly populated by guys who are far more into bickering than fishing.
I dont take sides as I dont spend enough time in ''the den'' to know who's who.
Sagemad feel free to PM me and I will give you a few pointers. They would be wasted here

I understand you're feelings Barra. It is very frustrating knowing that so many fish have been lost in just one sweep of a net just as they were about to go off and spawn. £17,000 seems excessive for one days catch/pay... There are not too many years left where this sort of exploitation can continue to be cost effective and we all will suffer as a result of 'never mind tomorrow' syndrome the commercial brain seems to be afflicted with. It is not too late to add your letter or email either. Closing date for the Bass MLS consultation is the 8th February 2006. Checkout DEFRA's website at www.defra.gov.uk/fish/fishindx.htmIf you would like to have your say over fish stocks and their depletion - Write to... Nicola Clarke Area 7E, FIM Defra, 3-8 Whitehall Place London SW1A 2HH Better still, as it will arrive in time, is an email. Again address it to Nicola Clarke - bassmls@defra.gsi.gov.ukComments along the lines of... I am writing to express my total support for Option 2 of the proposal to increase the bass minimum landing size from 36 cms to 45 cms. This will ensure that bass stocks will enjoy protection to breeding size and help to offset any poor spawning years. I also support the proposal to increase the minimum mesh sizes of nets used to catch bass by licensed commercial fishermen from 90mm to 110mm, in line with the conclusions of scientific advice and to ensure minimal by catch of bass and other species below the revised MLS.

If bloody useless Defra wanted to do anything about Bass conservation it would have done it years ago. Like its masters in this chat show Government it thinks that talking makes a difference. What makes a difference is action. If fishmongers were only allowed to sell farmed bass we should still lose many as dead, returned by-catch,but one hell of a lot less than now. How fffing difficult would that simple piece of legislation be to enforce? Many years ago the locals at Eastbourne took to netting our gullies when the bass were in after the crab. in May. They seemed to lose interest when their nets, for some unaccountable reason, kept coming,er...adrift. Naturally, one deplore such vandalism............ Robin

Hi Robin
Im glad to see your still alive. And ranting!
You bring the cork screw for hulls and I will bring the Acetone to melt the nets!
If you fancy a pint sometime then drop me a line, we can rant about the price of beer or bloke rods or troutpoppers or god knows what else.

You've got my mobile number, ring it whenever you feel thirsty. Shall we do the boats before or after a few pints? R Ps,sugar in the tanks is good,as well We old gits have a God given duty to balance the pox of political correctness that will turn the world into Guardian readers without our efforts.
