As yet I have not given SWFF a try yet but am keen to do so.
Does anyone know of any books that are worth a read to get some ideas on what and how to go about it e.g. what flies for different types of fish, different techniques etc.
I know there is this and other forums to ask specifics on, but just wanted to have a more leisurely read on the sport.
Any recommendations gratefully accepted.

IMO Ed Mitchell - Fly Rodding the Coast (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0811706281/102-5321881-0393746?v=glance) is the best. Lou Tabory has a couple of decent books also but not quite as good.

The Fly Fishing with a Pinch of Salt DVD certainly exploded a few myths about SWFF for me! There was I thinking it was all about blasting heavy lines and big flies out to the horizon in choppy seas and there is Mike Ladle catching them under his rod tip in a flat calm. Good stuff though and well worth a look. Allrounder ;D

Job
As with JRT...
A couple of good books to while away a winters evening would be - Lou Tabory's Inshore fly-fishing and Ed Mitchells Fly-fishing the saltwater shoreline .
Both books are quite similar reads, regarding information, but each author has his own slant on things. I also like Ed Mitchells Fly rodding estuaries. This book is more useful to anyone wishing to SWFF in the U.K, in my opinion.
Happy reading.

Not read the mitchel one, but the Tabory is superb - particularly in terms of watercraft. The "classics" are the Lefty Kreh books... heavily slanted towards the gulf of mexico though. His "saltwater flies" is a good reference if you're into tying. Best bet would be to hook up with some of the SWFF guys at one of the claves next year... they're a great bunch!

Apologies for not replying earlier, but many thanks to all who gave recommendations.
Am trying to get hold of a couple of them at the moment, but Waterstones have had to order them from the States so I will have a while to wait.

Did you try Amazon?

Gonzo Maybe a naive point of view by me, but I try to avoid Amazon if I can as they have let me down on more than one accassion. Now I only use them as a last resort or if they are a much cheaper option than anything else I can find. However, had a PM from someone recommending www.uksaltwaterflies.com/ and they seem to have the books in stock. As I am going to St Ives next weekend and they are only 30 minutes away I will go and see them and pick up a book or two. Thanks for the help though.

Dawg
I have spoken to Austen. Very helpful and friendly.
He should be in on either the Saturday or the Monday that I am in Cornwall. Must admit I am looking forward to having a chat with him.

Bring yer check book and leave the missus in the car!!
Theres plenty of goodies in stock to tempt you beyond books! Theres plenty of fish about still although they are getting .ripped to pieces by the Penzace red gill and rope outrigger brigade If the wind goes southerly that will hopefully put the fish closer in and out of the reach of the commercial fleet.
3 great pubs in Porthleven too!!
