Hello all, I wonder if any of my fellow Spider fans out there can have an input to the above question. So far this season the clear winner for me has been the very good Hares Lug and Plover ( size 16 ) .
Any suggestions on stillwater Spider use gratefully appreciated - depth, presentation, pattern etc......thanks

Black Spider, see "one for the beginners" in the step by step section.
Snipe and Purple, Partridge and Orange, Priest and Williams Favourite and Greenwells Spider.
All have served me well on numerous occasions over the years. Fished traditional wet fly style.

Dressing:
Hook:12-14 Thread: black Tail: feather dyed pillar box red Body: flat silver tinsel Rib: fine silver wire Hackle: black hen hackle
A good wee spider pattern from way back but can still be succesful on loch & stream. Not to be confused with the Grayling fly of the same name which has a badger hackle. On a dour day when no fish are rising try it on the tail. Tight Lines

Last season, I had great success with Hare's Lug & Plover in size 14 on my local stillwater. Currently using Hotspot spiders which are working quite well.
