Hi All,
In this month's FF&FT there are tying instructions for a "telephone fly" that require a wing of bronze mallard that must be "rolled and splayed". Splayed is fairly self explanatory but how does one roll a bronze mallard wing?
Thanks,
S

Take one feather, cut the stem at the tip so you get a V in the feather. Stroke the feather towards the tips and roll between finger and thumb, adjust for size and tie on the hook. Separate with fo8 wraps. You only want the feather tied on the hook, no stem. I find it easier to just cut the V, tie the feather in loosely at the butt and pull, as you pull, the feather gathers and has the same effect as rolling.

Thanks tango. I think I get the idea.
Cheers,
