Yesterday I watched Michael Frodin tying his cone head tube flies at the Kelso Angling Fair. Very good and interesting to boot. He has designed some new "cones". The one I got my hands on has concave sides is about 3mm in thickness and about 9 or 10 mm in diameter. They will be on sale, he says, from the end of May through Guide stockests.
Did anyone else see them? What did you think?
Cheers Alan.

Hi Alan - as you know I was there too. Saw Mikaels tube flies - really innovative. Hoping to get him over to the British Fly Fair International in November.
Thought the Tweed show was a really top class event.

Yes, I saw these tubes also. The water flow machine seemed to proove their worth in theory, but as we know theory does no necessarily mean practice.
History in the making or mickey in the taking?
The theory seems to be that if you are using soft winging furs, you want them to 'swim' in the current, only really possible in slow currents, hence the Sandy Levinton marabou shrimp for slow pools. Faster water might justify this cone head, the shape is not so nice looking though.
Wortha try I think.

One of the first things that I considered was reversing the cone. Sorry I didn't get chance of a photo there. I'll have a look around and see if I can find one. Maybe just another version of M.P.'s magic head.
Cheers Alan.

Tweedcast, Thank you for the picture. Sure seems like a lure to me. Braveheart, I have to agree here - the next invention will be this cone head with a couple of egg colored pompoms stuck on the hook shank. Regards,
