Die ull as in Hull without the H Bach as in the composer
Die ull bach
May not be precisely correct in Welsh, but it would get you one over the counter. ;D

I believe the Welsh boys would pronounce the Diawl Bach as "Dee-owl Bark" (Little Devil!).
But us English like to get them going by pronouncing it the "Die-awl Bark". ;o)

Dail as in the "dial" of a watch. Then plain old "Back" See other posts - this is wrong on both counts.

"Dial" sounds like die-ull to me I think people say it differently to where there from. At the barrows, people with a stond Bristolian accent call them "dallbacks" !!

Very interesting Trout.
Just in case anyone is interested, especially our much loved and well-informed neighbours from Bristol, Diawl Bach is Welsh for Little Devil - which is why Colin Chapman chose it as his Forum nom de plume of course!

I had thought that you were actually trying to give the correct pronunciation rather than the Brissel or any other regional version. I don't mind what you call it but the original question was asking how it was pronounced and if anyone wanted to know the correct pronunciation it is not what you suggested. Cothi has probably given the most succinct and phonetically correct explanation.

Will it still be the same pronounciation in Welsh as it is in English?
