Fishing nymphs on a very rocky lake. can anyone suggest method/materials to make a weed guard so I don't keep loosing flies every other cast? Hook sizes 12-16.

Try a length of stiff nylon tied in at the bend poking backwards and curved around roughly following the hook bend and tied in at the eye. I've used this method on largemouth bass bugs which are bigger than the sizes you're talking about but it's probably worth a try. Alternatively, try weighting the hook so that it swims upside down.

Rockhounds upside down method works best for me.

hi I use ordinary silver ribbing wire - doubled and tied in mid hook. THe double wire should reach just past the hook point ( and could then be bent parallel to the hook beneath the barb) . It works pretty well in weed - but I dont know if it will help in rocky bottom. cheers ali g aka lugg

Thanks! I'd better get some tying done. Will try both methods.
