Just back from a fun visit to this fishery, mmyself and a newish flyfisher friend both had our limits, followed by a nice lunch at the pub up the road (now refurbished, which is a poor excuse for £3.10 for a pint of ordinary lager). The fish fought well, especially noticeable on the 4wt brook rod that I used today. The four fish limits were 13 lbs for my friend and 18.5 lbs for myself.
Was also nice to bump into Stalker, and very amusing to watch his stalking with a Chomper. Hope you found Avon Springs for a look around on the way back - think it is a better stalking water and the beer is normal prices around there.

Hi Alan, nice to meet a fellow forum member-my first!-finished with 2 7 lbers(see photo gallery)and spent 2 hrs chasing that 20 only to have it spit the chomper when i sneezed!!gutted, yes we did find Avon Springs , had a look round-the top lake is perfect for stalking but we could only see 3 rainbows and a jack pike, the lake looked empty!bizarre-they must be good hiders!! nice place though.Clarity at Manningford was poorer than last year, and the light was against me for stalking. What have they done to the PUB?gone the way of so many "real" pubs-very posh-food was still good though. If anyone cant contact the fishery I got the new mobile of Aaron the owner-07917646073-Ithink a few people were trying to contact using the old numbers.Anyway Alan nice to meet you and your mate, perhaps we'll bump into each other again.take care. Stalker.

The oddest thing about today was thinking 'what is a chomper?' got home and checked on internet to find that I have white and green chompers in one of my boxes - tied about 3 years back and never used!! Will have to try this Stalking thing: Buzzers static on that little wand were great fun.
Was interesting to meet you Stalker. Avon Springs, well the second lake (Willow) is largely ignored by most - so most do not fish it, and the fish spend longer in there. Willow produces some fin perfect fish that occasionally reach 10lbs. I remember hooking a double between the islands and taking over half an hour to get the fish in, one of the best fights ever. Very rare that you get a damaged fish on that lake, and often the source of more fish than the first lake as most walk around - see nothing- and move back!!
The pub, well Central London prices in the sticks! Pity as it used to have atmosphere decent beer and food, the prices are o.k. in Central london as you get the totty to go with it!

I was going in to the Woodbridge for lunch but the price of the ale puts me off and I should think the locals will be put off. They like good English food so nothing fancy. A good soup in the basket is what they want.

Nutty,I bought a load of white chompers recently of a fly website, can't remember it at present but will pm you later when I do!they come in all colours but the white ones certainly have the edge, the only problem with shop bought ones is they rarely have sufficient weight to get down to patroling fish quickly enough,i'm still trying to find the perfect ones!will let you know when I do!
