Had a couple of sojourns to the big pond this weekend. Friday night was a wash out with a couple of suicidal fish... more as result of my poor fishing technique than the blistering sun and wind that persisted all night. Sunday, on the other hand , was a completely different story. My boat partner, Ian Simpson and I landed well over twenty fish and should have doubled our tally had it not been for the ones we dropped! With a few of Scotland's big guns out for a bounce day, the poor fish never stood a chance! And boy was there a few fish caught? I know Keith Doig and Nigel Burns had over forty fish apiece and it seemed that every time we turned around, Francy Jarret was bending into yet another fish. I though he might have told the boys what he was catching them on, but maybe he was in too much of a hurry to get away home and forgot. Anyway, if you get a decent day, you could do worse that head for Loch Leven. I don't know what the exact catch figures are, but I know there has been a lot of fish caught (one cracking rainbow that I know of) and maybe Secretary can give us some more accurate numbers? northdeeps

Thanks for all your witty replies. Not sure I understand the code of silence though, are you all competition guys? Never partaken myself, too much like hard work, too much time, much too much money and maybe a wee bit of too much tackle too! Thought the best thing for Leven though would be for as many people as possible to catch as many fish as possible so as to encourage anglers back? So thought I'd ask what you were catching them on, sharing info and all that kind of old fashioned nonsense. Never had a problem with this myself but never fished a competition so maybe we're breeds apart. Anyway, I release all the ones I catch - all 3 of them so far! And I'll keep plugging away even when I catch none, which is more and much more often the case, with my usual suspects - Clan Chief, Kate, Invicta, GRHE, Olive Bumble and assorted mini lures and you keep on plugging away with your tried and tested hush hushies. Tight lines and goodbye.

I'm with you greenzulu on telling anybody that's interested what flies I've caught with. I've fished for more than 50 years, never been a club member and never entered a competition. Each to their own though, I played competitive golf for more than 20 years and competed fiercely at that but fishing means something different to me. I can fully understand the attraction of competitive angling and I know that if I ventured into it I'd become obsessive about it and that's the main reason I've always avoided it.

Tight lines and goodbye. Greenzulu, Despite what you might think, I can hardly be described as a competition man! And despite the smart comments from others (just banter by the way), I did catch my fish on a pink cat double and a Cabury sparkler. I'm off to work just now, but I'll type the dressing for you later and if I can, I'll even take a couple of pictures. northdeeps
