28/04/2006 At last some warmer weather! As I write the sun is shining and the buzzers are hatching. Last week saw some of the biggest buzzer hatches I've ever seen at Farmoor with the fish totally preoccupied on these and ignoring most things artificial! Fortunately the last week has seen fishing improve with daily rod averages of over 4 fish per person. Catch returns either show buzzer or booby as successful fly so take your pick from floating or sinking line depending on your personal preferences! Clive Loveland landed a cracking bag of over-wintered rainbows from the bank, all on booby, with best fish going 3lb8oz. Most of the over-wintered fish are still being caught deep down which is quite normal for Farmoor until the water warms up. Last weeks surface temperature was still only 8c compared to 12c this time last year, another sign of the cold spring! Tomorrow (29th April) sees us hosting the annual England Youth fund raising competition, entry is open to all ages so come along and join in the fun. Fishing starts at 10:00am and ends at 5:00pm followed by a buffet and prize giving hosted by Bernard Cribbins in the sailing club. For further info or to speak to myself or one of the wardens please ring the fishery on 01865 863033 Best wishes Paul Doherty Senior Fishery Warden Farmoor II Trout Fishery Oxford

Fished Farmoor yesterday 28th and struggled to find the fish in the morning, eventually ended up on the causeway(North wind) and found some great overwintered fish about 10 foot down. Took 3 x 2lb+ and 2 over 3lb with best fish 3lb 14oz, rest were early stock fish that have grown on well. All took a size 12 red epoxy buzzer. Saw a few rising late on but still very very cold for late April. Wardens office is all decorated now but very bare but I'm told the shop will be fully stocked over the next few weeks! Pull your finger out thames water!

Yesterday (29/04/2006) We held our annual England Youth fund raising match. Despite a bitterly cold North Easterly wind, 51 anglers caught 128 fish between them with the overall winner being Gerry Reed with 7 fish for 10lb. 4 anglers managed 8 fish apiece but Gerry's best fish of 2lb 13oz saw him win by 3oz! Most fish were taken about 10 foot down on boobies and minkies. Today (30/04/2006) is even colder but saw a late morning rise of good overwintered fish, these were taking buzzers off the top but proved difficult to tempt! Best fish over the last few days was a 4lb 14oz rainbow, surprisingly we still haven't had a fish over 5lb caught yet this season. I expect these bigger fish to start showing soon when the weather finally warms up!
Tomorrow I'm off for a spot of real trout fishing on the Derbyshire Wye so you wont hear from me for the next 10 days but if you ring the fishery the wardens will be happy to give you up to the minute info.
