I'm planning a trip home and was wondering if anyone knew how Wimbleball was fishing at the moment.
Are the Hawthorn about yet?
cheers ADrian

Adrian,
I was at Wimbleball a couple of weeks ago, fished off the bank close to where the road goes across the lake - I caught nothing!
I only saw 1 rainbow caught off the bank. Looking at the return cards people in boats did well, one guy caught 15 rainbow (over 3 days) using a Montana.
I also fished Wistlandpound off the boat launch next to the car park, caught 4 rainbow using a Cats Whisker - might be worth a go!
Hope you have better luck than I did at Wimbleball!

A colleague of mine fished there on Sunday afternoon and caught six on diawl bachs and buzzers from the shore at Ruggs. He said there were plenty of Hawthorn about and the fish were taking them off the surface- they wouldn't take imitations off the top though. A switch to nymphs did the business!!

Spent the afternoon at Wimbleball yesterday and was greeted by the sound of fiddle music playing - there was an Exmoor countryside fair on close to the ticket lodge.
Drove round to Ruggs to find a strong wind right to left - no good for a right-hander so wandered round to the other side of Ruggs Bay. Plenty of Hawthorns about but not much other activity. Managed to take two on floating line - both took the point fly - Cruncher & GRHE - a bit deeper down as there was a chill in the air, after the previous few warm days. Pretty pleased as casting was very difficult - a strong wind straight along the bank.
Bumped into a couple of lady anglers, who had done pretty well lure fishing the Bessom's Bank (with the wind to their back!). The highlight of their day was witnessing a large hatch of Mayfly close to the bank, only for them to float towards the middle in a great swarm. They were very suprised to not see a single rise - the fish were clearly quite deep and not even wanting to rise for such a tasty feast!
