Rib's fishing sh*t, Hanningfield's sh*t, Ringstead's sh*t, Grafham was good on opening day but is now sh*t, Blagdon's sh*t, Bewl's sh*t, Manor Farm was supposed to be fishing fabulously but one of my friends was there today and had one. So that's sh*t. I had three today, but only four bites in six hours and most people blanked. Water temp was 8 degrees and they put 200 in this morning. Wassup Charlie

Well. I've booked a day at Farmoor tomorrow and apparently it's fishing ok. I'll report back RichardB

You forgot Chew Charlie ;D The effects of the coldest winter for ten years and a Spring 6 weeks behind in some places is now showing on our resevoirs.. I fully expect the Bristol Waters to start fishing after a week of warmer weather ;D Having said that many of our big Ressies are not fishing well at the moment, I can't help thinking back to last year as both Allrounder and my rod averages are actually up on this time last year C.B

CB, I suspect your averages are up because you are becoming better anglers and know the water better than you did last year.
Most places are fishing terribly, but a week of warmer weather and I think they'll be OK again. I'm surprised how much stockie rainbows are affected by low water temperatures.

Avon Springs is doing OK. I caught my limit on my last visit. Probably a tad small for you though.

... I can't help thinking back to last year as both Allrounder and my rod averages are actually up on this time last year C.B Not quite, mate. I've just checked my 2005 fishing log. Last March I had 25 trout in 6 visits making an average of just over 4 fish per session with no limits. This season it is 10 fish from 3 trips so far, giving just over 3 fish per session, and that includes an 8 fish limit I'll be out again tomorrow at Chew and I'll be dead chuffed if I get 4 fish. Allrounder ;D

Charlie...Packington is going great guns. I got seven today in difficult wind and rain.
There was a Trout Masters heat or whatever..the winner had thirteen and fishing ceased at two oclock.
I daren't tell you what I took them on ;D

Roy, It's a good job I've met you and know what a fine upstanding chap you are, or I would be suspecting a wind-up - I'm still biteless on the Pinkie I probably don't fish it with the same conviction as you do ie it's only on for five minutes - Everywhere down here is fishing very poorly, in comparison to that Hey ho, roll on Spring. Well, Charlie..it takes one Gentleman to know another Mind you, I have to tell you that now the weather has warmed up I have to fish it on an intermediate line...I know...work that one out!!! The truth is I haven't fished anything else for weeks..it is, as you say, down to conviction. I just know that if I can get it to the fish..they'll take it. Why not come and try Packington if you are up this way?

Charlie, You'd better give your crystal ball a clean The morning was better than the afternoon when the weather cooled, but I had four fish and missed as many again. Considering there was ice in the edges again last thursday, the water is about 4 degrees at the moment instead of around 9 for March, I'd say it wasn't a bad day out. RichardB

Richard, I'm really glad to hear you had a good day at Farmoor and that somewhere is fishing half decent.
Clearly water temps have been very low and hopefully things will get a lot better quickly. One of the strange things, to my mind, is that this weekend was not better given that we had three or four warmer days last week. I guess it just shows how long it takes for a body of water to warm up.
Hey ho, let's hope for a rapid improvement all round.

This will buck the trend....... Stocks Reservoir is 350 acres (ish) nestling over 1000 feet above sea level in the Forest Of Bowland and considering the currently appalling weather conditions is fishing amazingly. I fished with NigelH of the forum on Sunday, we had 31 fish between us including a 9lb 4oz for Nigel on a size 14 Buzzer and I had Overwintered Bows of 4lb and 5-8oz on Buzzers ! The previous day one angler had 33 from the boats ! Not everywhere is Sh*t !!!!! Nick

Nick, yes I heard Stocks is fishing well and you two are a bit better than the average Joe. The interesting question is "why" are Stocks and one or two places bucking the weather - I don't believe the fish density in a place that size can be higher than say Ringstead or Rib ? If trout don't like water at 3 degrees C, they don't like water at 3 C, it can't make any difference where that water is. Such is the magic of fishing Charlie
