This is the Shimano owned water near Swansea.
Has anyone ever fished it? Any views as to whether it's worth a three and a half hour drive?
Thanks in advance

The man you wanna talk to hear is Badboy he has fished it and is even considering a season ticket-VERY EXPENSIVE! But hit it right and it could be very much worth it. day tickets are expensive, well 19.50 for 2 fish, about 35 for 4 i think it was not so long ago, ive only ever walked around it, but id liek to fish it at least once this year to try an get a decent sized fish as most are about 4lb plus? As to the 3 and a half hour drive.....Im not entirely sure. welshy

Hello Royvs ive been there 3 times and didnt catch anything , i know there are fish in there but i couldnt catch and i tryed all methods , the fish you do catch are awesome normally you catch 5-6lb plus , as for the 3 hour drive if you were staying down here id give it a go maybe just to say youve tryed , but ive found better places to fish now , Eglyws Nunydd , Garnfrwd and Papermill . give me a shout if you want any advice on them Stuart

It must have changed since I lived in Felindre, then it was an any method reservoir and nothing to rave about . On the other hand the top lliw reservoir, quite a long walk was stocked for a while with American brook trout / fly only and I more or less had it to my self as I knew the keeper whose house was on the top lake and had a key to the gate to drive up there RichardB

There are undoubtedly some very big fish in what is really a pretty small water. I have fished it and caught large ( 8lb, dwarves compared to the above ) fish. But only in the river closed season to work my arm. I found it a bit too expensive and a bit too much "fish in a barrel". But each to his own, so here is their Website:- Shimano Big Fish Water

I totally agree Otter.
I fished Felindre once a few years ago, fishing the top end without any fish I moved down to the bottom.
The owners assistant appeared asking if I had any luck, on the reply of no he chucked a large handful of trout pellets in, I immediately had a 4lb+ fish definitely fish in a barrel water.
Never been again.

Haven't fished it for a number of years but as already said it is fairly small but very well stocked with big fish hence the very expensive price. I personally don't remember it being an any method lake. The Lower Lliw Reservoir is however any method. The actual name of Felindre Big Fish water is Blaenant Ddu Reservoir. Jud Hamblin still runs it I believe. I would also recommend Garnffrwd but there are plenty of others around but it depends what you want from your fishing. I fished Bro Tywi last week which is well stocked and about 3-4 acres and the fish were up on top all day. For a more wild type fishery try Swiss Valley near Llanelli or Cantref (rainbows) or Beacons reservoir (browns). Llandegfedd near Usk is also is fishing well. If you can wait til July (currently has algae problems) try Wentwood Reservoir near Newport which is 41 acres. There is also a good catch and releae fishery near Nantgaredig which fishes wellalthough it's name is cuurently escaping me.
Hope this helps with your trip
