Speak to the ranger Dave Pursey. Most people seem to turn left and fish the corner and up that arm towards one of the streams coming into the reservoir, it is also possible to get a boat and do some great drifts along past the lodge. Sorry cannot help with specific patterns checking my log Damsel, Red thorax Montana, Gold head PTN, Claret Hoppers, to name a few Great place to fish, worth the trip, thanks for reminding me I must get back there this season!. Enjoy your trip Julian

Hi Blondie, totally agree with above , Dave Pursey is always happy to give advice as are most of the regulars , always friendly atmosphere in the lodge , if I had to choose one fly for Clatworthy to always have on my cast that would be a monty variant . The fish can often be very close in to the bank especially to the right of the lodge where it shelves off into deep water very quickly, cheers Dipper

Hi Blondie and welcome to the forum. Clatworthy is a lovely place to get away from it all and enjoy a great day out. There are two things that you can do when you get there . Follow the crowd and head of to the left of the lodge and hook in to some stockies on viva's cats wiskers montanas etc on a intermediate or floating line or do as i do and head of to the right and keep moving. You will find the the best fishing is in the long arm after the dam and them fish all the way around the res. First thing in the season i would use black or dark flies with maybe a lure on the point and a couple of nymphs on droppers. Fish from the bottom up until you hit the fish but and i must stress this keep on the move as the fish need to be found. i hope this helps TobyM

The last time i fished up there was the last week of the season and i walked the whole res. Know i am a large guy and in a pair of chest waders i can tell you i had the best nights sleep i had had foe ages i was cream crackered. I caught my limit that day fishing a white minky for the fry feeders. All the people that went to the right struggled to find one or two fish so it pays to wonder around. Tobym

Same as anywhere - depends when you are going and conditions as anywhere. Good flies are :
Black and peackcock spider. Montana nymphs Hairs ear Darker Nymphs Black Buzzers
Black Hoppers
Black or white lures work well early season
Most people head down to the left of the lodge - down toward Rose End. All good bank fishing.
In warmer weather - take a boat and drift off the wooded banks to the right with black dries (e.g hoppers). Lots of terristrials
The reservoir is similar in many ways to W/ball - although the fish are much more reliant on windfall as it is relatively acidic and steep sided (i.e. there are not extensive shallow sections).
I have never fished for fry feeders in there - but i think it is probably a good method and there are some big resident fish in there
