Spent the day at Barnes Lakes, Standlake, Oxfordshire.
Gorgeous location, but a very hot day, little wind or cloud, with predictable results - two blanks.
I have heard several times that trout don't feed on adult damselflies. Well, all I can say is that this is the third year in a row that we have seen adults taken on Kingfisher Lake at this venue.
What fish were active were clearly taking adult damselflies as they oviposited. Neither of us had adult damselfly patterns with us.
In previous years any trout which were focussed on adult damsels would gleefully take a Grey Wulff or a Fan Wing Mayfly, but not today.
Well, that's the end of the report. No fish. Superb suntan, but no fish.
If you are going to Barnes Lakes (and I still recommend it) take some adult damselfly imitations with you, and head for Kingfisher Lake.

ps I did come away with something - an adult damselfly, so that I can tie-up some detatched bodied adults ready for my next visit.
The fishery should be in a full-blown sedge hatch by then.
