Thought I would bring you up to date on the state of the River Colne; polluted in December.
A recovery is apparent! Trout are showing on the Colne at Huddersfield and are rising to Baetis flies. I have not seen any grayling. I would imagine that there is a mixture of survivors and those that will have migrated down-stream after spawning. The big floods of March will have helped. The fly hatches are very 'thin' and the midge numbers appear to be back to normal.
I have not seen the usual kingfisher or heron . There will be no (or few) smaller fish for them to eat. The dipper are there. I have not seen any mink, but I have not spent hours there fishing, as used to be the case.
A bait angler reported having a blank day at the end of March.
Grayling are plentiful upstream of the pollution point and I am sure a few will wander down after spawning; or fry will be carried down.
The court case is still pending.
I have made a decision not to fish this part of the river at present and hope those of you who have come here in the past would do the same. There is plenty of good fishing upstream.

Hi Graham,
I've not fished the Colne in the town centre myself this year, probably for much the same reasons as yourself, a mix of sadness and wanting it to recover without the pressure of angling. On the up side I've had some really good days on the the upper stretches of the Colne this year with some really strong LDO hatches early April. I think todays rain wiull be welcome and predict some good fishing for the rest of the week.
