Hi Folks,
I'm planning a 2-3 day fishing / camping holiday this summer. Can anyone advise me of a mixed fly and coarse fishery on the Wye that allows anglers to camp in a tent overnight beside the river? Please note that I am keen to avoid the usual campsites / caravan parks and am really looking for a nice quiet stretch on a farm somewhere away from other people.
I realise that a lot of fisheries are reluctant to allow camping due to problems with litter etc but would really appreciate any advice as I have drawn a blank so far in my search of the net.
Thanks in advance Dave Angel

I suggest you contact the Wye and Usk Foundation on 01982 551520 or on their website; www.wyeuskfoundation.org. It sounds like you want some water on the main river between Builth Wells and Hay to fit the "mixed" fishery that you after. There is more than enough fly fishing for salmon and trout and grayling in that neck of the woods but the coarse fishing is either under recognised or not worth it. For more coarse fishing and some trout you will need to below Hay, where the barble kick in big time. If coarse is more of what you are after then camping on the Middle wye, say around Eardisley and making a trip for trout into the upper Wye catchment 1/2 to 1 hour away, might suit. I might be able to fix you up for a camp site or use of a fishing hut in that area this if that was of interest?
