Driving over the North Downs today - specifically, Box Hill and adjoining big lumps of chalk between the Wandle and the Mole - I wondered, as one does... Does anyone on these boards know where best to flyfish it? If so, could you confide? PM, perhaps, if it's very secret... Theo

This is my back garden more or less. I'm in Fetcham (which Jay mentions). To be honest the chance of you picking up any game fish in the Mole are remote.
The Mole at Dorking is nice and is probably your best bet for coarse fish. The Mole is where the UK record Chub came from I believe.

Interesting someone else was thinking this. My grandmother used to live at Stoke D'Abernon as a child and told me the other day that her father started a trout fishing club on the Mole there. Must be 80 years ago now. I've been meaning to look into it as a matter of interest since I moved to London, but haven't got around to it yet. However, I did read in my rather dated version of Where to Fish (98-99) that the Cobham Court AC still stocked it in 99.
Sounds though that it's not really a trout river.
