Saturday was a special day for me. Took my aging father out fishing for the first time this year. Last time out in August he broke his leg whilst fishing the river Wye, so...... after 7 plus months of healing, physio and confidence building, yesterday was his first trip. The night before he was like a little kid, so excited - practising his knots on the kitchen table and going through his flies A brilliant day on the Upper Monnow, fantastic scenery, wild daffs, anemones in the woodlands, and most importantly... second cast: Not bad for a 78 year old eh! Almost a moist eyed moment We ended up with 20 plus fish between us, all on the nymph, GRHE and Oliver Edwards Baetis pattern. Mixed bag of trout and grayling with plenty of fine big fish amongst the feisty fingerlings. The day was everything I could have hoped for PS ...... I told him to leave the grayling alone but as usual, he wouldn't listen

Your dad looks over the moon. I hope you have many more moments like this. TobyM Thanks all for your kind comments - Mum phoned today to say how he hasn't stopped talking about his fishing trip. She even walked into the lounge to find him casting an imaginary rod and re-living playing the fish into the net - he is a star ;D
