Try the Eamont around Brougham Castle (near Penrith - adjacent to A66). I fished it on a day ticket whilst staying in Pooley Bridge last summer.
Tickets from Pooley Bridge post office.

The Eden is definatley worth fishing, www.lakedistrictfishing.net/ follow the links through "rivers" and it will give you a list / links to most of the clubs on the Eden, it's also an excellent site if you want to fish around the Lake District. The upper Eden is ran by Kirkby Stephen AA the contact is either Mr Kilbington on 01768 371495 or Mr Alderson on 01768 371337. You can get day tickets from these contacts. The next strech down is Appleby AA the contact there is Mr Pigney on 01768 351240. Day tickets available. The next beat is Penrith AA contact Mr Tom Rosling 01768 862418. Day tickets available. There is a lovely stretch just above Penrith which is ran by The Lazonby Estate contact Edwin on 01228 580 122. This has 4 beats and a vast amount of water. Day tickets available. The Eden at Carlisle - Day ticket from the tackle shop in Carlisle was only £5. Alternatively phone John Norris of Penrith - 01768 864 211. Traditonal north counrty flies tied sparsly work a treat. Some of the above information was posted a while ago on this forum, so they should take some of the credit.

Steve
The Eden Rivers Trust in Appleby have a voucher scheme. The vouchers are 2.50 each. Some beats require one voucher per day and some two. They have beats on the Eden, Eamont, Livennet and some small streams. Ullswater is free!
