Fished the Whiteadder at Abbey St Bathans yesterday. Water was high and cold but clear enough. Quite a range of flies hatching, but not much to be seen in the way of fish moving. Ended up with 3 brownies to about 10" on a black spider. Nothing exceptional, but a decent result from what started out as unpromising conditions.

Well done, I honestly didn't think much would be stirring down there at this time. The Whiteadder seems to take longer than most to warm up, especially with the reservoir storing it's cold supplies at the top of the system in the Lammermuirs. Having said that, there were quite a few fish coming up for buzzers at the reservoir on the Sunday, a few sizeable fish too.

Springers are sometimes caught on the Whiteadder in February. But the trout fishing is a different proposition, especially higher up the system. It is unusual to see much happening before April.
