Does anyone know where you can fish on a day ticket the River Coln, in the Cotswolds, other than the Bull Hotel water in Fairford?
Many thanks in advance

Hi Barny. Trout and Salmon were advertising water on the Coln in their classified section this month.
Have you fished it before? You may be disappointed. I fished the Coln on an invite a couple of years back and it was pretty much a mobile stock pond.
What sort of river fishing are you looking for? PM me if you wish. bfn Dave

You can get day tickets from the Swan at Bibury but I would never fish there as it is full of stocked and escaped fish from the fish farm and your every move will be watched by tourists. The Bibury Court Hotel also used to do tickets but I'm not sure if they were for residents only.

Fair comment SB, the trouble with The Bull water - for me anyway - is that the meadows alongside attract plenty of walkers. I've had people throwing sticks for Rover and just generally gawping and getting under feet, which just detracts from the experience somewhat. Of course if you are lucky and get a day when it is peaceful and quiet then it can be a real winner. I always found it best in November for grayling.

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to a guy on the phone last night who said there were three day ticket waters on the Coln, The Bull water, (good, but public access can get crowded), the Swan water (not so good and very much overlooked) and Coln St Aldwyn. The latter he said was the best by far. Has any one else fished this?
Unfortunately booked for the weekend I wanted to go. It would have been ideal as I have some friends staying. The guys could have fished, the ladies could join us for a picnic and use those pretty (and expensive) Cotswold towns for shopping etc. A rariety, everyone's happy!

Haven't fished Coln St Aldwyns - be interested to hear what its like though With regard to finding an alternative with suitable shopping for the ladies, picnics etc. Barny - Head west my son! You could do a lot worse than dump (I mean drop) the ladies in somewhere like Hereford or Ludlow for a spot of wallet emptying. You and the boys could then head off to any one of the WUF waters for a spot of quality trouting. There are nice stretches of the Lugg and the Arrow available not far from Ludlow, and near to Hereford you have the Wye and also fishing on the Monnow catchment. Apologies if you already knew this!

The beauty of the Coln is that you can fish and non-fishers can be bought off with some expensive shopping, and all this can be done in great surroundings. Is there anywhere else like that in the Cotswolds?

Is there anywhere else like that in the Cotswolds? If you can get tickets, the upper/mid Windrush is a lovely stream and runs pretty close to Bourton on the Water, Burford, Stow on the Wold and is not far from Oxford. The Evenlode is in the same general area, a bit further east, but I think that tickets will be hard to get here as well.

And, if so; who to approach?

The only day tickets for the Windrush that I am aware of is the short stretch just above Burford. Apart from that there are no day tickets, just annual membership associations (CFF and Newland Angling Club and Witney Angling Association). Drop me a PM.
Cheers
Andy

You can get a day ticket for the Windrush at Burford, from the needlework shop. The shop is half way down the hill, just up from the Orvis shop, ask for Mr. Cohen, I think it is £10 a day or £20 a season. However its not great as it is always a little coloured. NOT STOCKED all wild fish!!!!!
As for the Coln St Aldwyn beat on the Coln, again its not great. Deep and slow.
There are cheap season tickets around Witney, these can be purchased from State Tackle in Witney. They range from £40-£65. The £40 Newlands stretch is a little bit wild and over grown
