Hi All,
I paid my first vist of the season to The Liffey today. I would usually have fished it four or five times at this point but have been trying out some other venues this season.
The conditions did not look promising when I arrived. The river was returning to normal after a flood yesterday but was still rather high and the colour of weak tea, I couldn't quite see my foot in knee deep water. It was blowing a gale directly downstream and rained for most of the day. Very few insects hatching off, just a few large Darks but not enough to bring the fish up and I saw very few rises. The one plus to this was that I had the run of the river and didn't see another angler all day.
I landed five brownies, two of them nice 1lb + fish, with one about half a pound and the other two small. All returned alive. All bar one taken on the Waterhen Bloa, fished in the trad style.
An excellent day despite the weather.
Cheers,
S

It was flooded this weekend but I heard its been fishing well other than that. This week has been very cold so not much insect activity. Most people still using nymph. Its meant to warm up later next week so I expect it will pick up then and hopefully get some good hatches over the next few weeks. Mid april through mid may daytime fishing is usually excellent. The one thing you dont want is a wind from the east or north, that tends to kill it dead.
let us know when you are over.
Cheers,
S
