I do like SA lines as well most of my big salmon lines are SA and they go on very well ,most are older than my son who will turn 14 this september !

All lines crack in my experience having regualr use. I find it hard to beleive that some people expect a fly line to last forever. If you are fishing with something that is expose to so much friction, that is if you are fishing enough you expect it to last for more than one or two seasons. Not only that how do you expect to get the best out of your fishing. Dont you replace your toner or ink cartridge on your printer when its running thin, or even a battery in your headlamp. A Fly line is a consumable product just the same. Even your rod can become tired.

Any line but a cortland Gazmeister I'd be more than happy to recommend a Cortland 444. I have them in 3, 4 and 5 weights and they all work well. I've had no problems with their longevity either only having to replace them after they've been stood on by a studded wading boot.

The 444 has really low line memory, but cracks quickly and loses its slickness.
Any line can be buggered quickly by standing on it or catching it on brambles or a dam wall.

I'm glad others have pointed out shortcomings with Cortland lines on this forum, because I was beggining to think I was the only one to have had bad experiences with them, even the so called classic peach floater ( I bought another thinking the first was a dud and both were the same, limp and sticky) and the recent sylk- this was sticky too and the coating came off . I don't need the dvd either, I only want a line. My clear creek was the exception, which was a great line, but after 3 bad lines out of 4 I now use what I know - scientific anglers - the best in my view.
