True, but as far as i know, the Wychwoods havent been out long. And ive also heard quite a few horror stories about the visions. Mind you, ive heard lots of bad stories about every brand.

share them if they are first hand experience - otherwise its just hearsay - i've yet to hear a horror story, thats why i bought them; everything i read supports my experience - the only leaks have been made by me - and i have made a few!

As I mentioned here on a few occasions, my fishing buddy had a nightmare with vision extremes both the waders and boots and the pair of extreme boots I had were just as bad, eyelet came off followed closely by the soles. Very disappointing.
Best waders I've used have been Scierra MBQ's but I suspect whichever brand you opt for theres a hit and miss element to it. now I just go for the cheapest breathables I can find in a sale and hope they last a season or too.

Jo,
i think your spot on. I have a pair of Hardwear waders. Lasted 2 seasons(amazing for me), but everyone else i spoke to has slated them. Pot luck i think!
plus with a pair on sale, if you catch them on barbed wire, you aint lost much!

Agree with Jan - the Vision waders get very good press. I own a pair of Simms G3's so have no axe to grind. Will definitely go for the Visions next time.
Poor Vision waders are very much the exception to the rule, whilst for most other brands of breathables, bar Patagonia and Simms, leaks, etc. seem to be the norm.
Indeed, spoke to a very honest tackle dealer, someone who in the past has talked me out of stuff I was going to buy from him because he didn't consider it appropriate for my needs, despite not having an alternative product, and he says that returns on the Extremes are well below 5%. Whilst this doesn't gurantee success it is considerably better than pot luck.
However, the boots do appear to have a very poor reputation.

i would agree with the waders - on balance the evidence is good -mine have done three seasons now and apart from hook holes the only leak was where i spilt something on them which rotted a hole - hardly the waders fault - never tried the boots so cant comment, i use korkers boots. What was the nightmare scenario with the waders Jo?

Jan,
Leaking feet and inside seems on 2 consecutive pais of extremes both in less than a season. Soles falling off boots.

The toughest waders I ever had were those used by the oyster farmers in Britanny. I was fortunate to get them with a trade discount from the local co-op. Made of thick rubber, they would stand up on their own. Maybe not the best kit for hiking to the riverside, but they stood up to years of bramblebashing and tripping over barbed wire (and river maintenance workparties once a week all winter!).
The big advantage was of course that when they did get punctured a bicycle repair kit was all one needed to repair them.
I'd love to get another pair for fishing rough streams.

Had a pair of extremes and the inside seams failed after a couple of months. Got a replacement pair and they started to fail within a matter of weeks.
Now have Simms G3 and would not go back.

i must have been lucky then - or possibly they have sold so many thousands that there are bound to be one or two failures - on balance i woudl buy another pair when mine fail

It occured to me, whilst looking at the damp patches left on me after being failed by another set of breathables at the weekend (Diawa Lochmors this time) that maybe I should get a cheap pair of waterproof trousers to wear over the top to take the worst of the wear and tear. Anyone tried this?
