I have tried both Loomis and Sage rods and cannot bring myself to part with a months mortgage payment on a rod ,I have Bloke and Greys rods and i am very happy with them ,the Bloke incidently is the best rod i have used 10 ft xl50 #7 .Its all about what you are happy with and what you are happy paying for a rod it doesn't make you a better angler by having an expensive rod just better off or foolish imho.

At the shekels mentioned within this thread, why not go the custom built route?
You can select the blank, action, fittings and finish and have a one off that you would have no wish to part with.
Why follow the crowds?

'Skinhead' you are right if you want no resale value, except: who's blank do you choose?
I guess we should all know that whilst virtually all blanks are produced in the far east for £5 to £15! The big difference is how the rod is built! If you cross over to the coarse rods and speak ith the 'VERY BEST' Match Waggler anglers (300+lbs of Carp on a rod in 6 hours is no mean feat) they will tell you that only the Carbotec will do. Yes Preston Innovations made the 'Barbon Active" Look Alike - but the builders did not understand that a blank has a spine!
So back to the real world. If you look for a 'Cheap' loomis or Sage on Ebay the first warning on a cheapie will be about the build.
If you like Levi jeans, Sage/Loomis etc, Bolle, Harrods and Fortnum's - get ready to pay for the label: if you don't / or can't Please leave alone those that can and Vice Versa!!!
