Hi There i'm in the market for prescription polaroids too. I just looked at the optilabs but £120 is a bit steep for me. I was considering a pair of Cocoons which fit over your normal specs? Has anyone used or seen these. cheers Al. I had the Cocoons and found them very uncomfortable and offered pretty poor polarisation.

I had a bad feeling someone would say that. thanks anyway Handsome stick. thanks for your advice Mugsy too. It looks like i will have to bite the bullet and shell out on this one. Are most opticians willing to give you your prescription even though you aren't buying glasses from them ? I ask because i don't know my prescription and will have to find out before ordering. cheers Al.

It is very important that you get the pupil measurement. It is not always marked on the prescription, so ask for it.

Eye tests are now free of charge and you have the right to your glasses prescription. Just had one.

Thanks everyone for your help. And prescriptions are definitely not free in England as far as i'm aware. Thanks, Al.

Al If you use a PC as part of your job your employer has to pay for an annual eye test!
... also if you want to try clipons I have some I don't use any more just let me know when you're next going to the river and will try to hook up.

I also have a pair from Optilabs. Bought some cheap Oakey copy sunglasses on holiday with metal frames. Liked them so much decided to see if I could get Polarised perscription lenses. Tried the usual high street retailer, who said I needed to buy frames from them (yeah like £70 for frames then lenses on top).
Phoned Optilabs- explained what I wanted- said no problem- sent the frames in with £65 and my prescription. Couple of days later my new sunnies arrived- been going strong for several years. Optilabs service was spot on.

Yes, Free eye tests are now the norm in Scotland - maybe the Scottish Executive feel we all need to see further - certainly the case if you are in the highlands. Recommended frame style by scottish executuve is as shown at news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4377926.stm - now lets play safe lads - we can always change the tint on this story. Malcolm
