I went to buy a battery this morning a 110a/h leisure battery ,but the guy says i would be better just buying a car battery as they are guaranteed for 2 years and the leisure battery is only guaranteed for 1 year.He said if i took the car battery back within the 2 years he would replace it no problem.I would like to know what would last longer on a day to day basis though ,i would have thought the deep cycle battery would have been better but the guy insisted i should go for the car battery as that was what everyone else was using.I won't be using the motor on any big waters just a lough of around 100 acres and i am fit enough to row if the battery does run out.The car battery was around £50 and the leisure battery was around £75 .I would rather spend the extra £25 if its going to work out cheaper in the long run.
Any advice is welcomed.

have heard all the stories, use a truck battery and the like , and that there is no difference between them .but i talked to a guy who makes his living selling batterys and he said for an electric outboard get a leisure battery(he was not trying to sell me a battery)so i did.got it on e-bay 30quid for 110 amp/hr no regrets.

How long does the battery last Jim? 4 hours usage maybe i won't need much more than that as i will be using a drogue so the drifting speed will be slowed down therefore less drifts to to motor back up.

It's not a question of how long it will last but how it will recover from it. The leisure battery is designed to be run nearly flat with a steady discharge rate and to recover on the recharge, the car battery is designed to give a high output whilst starting then recover, a steady discharge to nearly flat might damage the car battery. All you ever wanted to know about charging a battery and more. www.difflock.com/diffmag/issue21/battery/

- Also have two leisure batteries and they are still ok after 4 seasons. Although one doesn't hold quite as much charge. Make sure you keep them upright. One of mine leaks a bit of acid sometimes if it is not upright. (it will eat its way through almost anything) I started finding mysterious holes in various bit of clothing. Luckily none near any important areas.
