Muskol. Far and away the best repellent ever. It even keeps the savage blackflies in Canada at bay.
3M's Ultrathon is also good. Not quite as good as Muskol, but if you can't get Muskol, get Ultrathon.
Obviously everyone now knows to keep repellents away from breathable waders, jackets, etc. No need to blather on about this. There is no harm in using DEET based repellents, just don't spray it on Gore-tex.
Everything else is an also-ran as far as I'm concerned. I've tried multiple brands of DEET-free stuff and they are useless unless the mozzie population is less than 10 per square mile in your area. If you want to go deet-free, you might as well invest in the new bug-repellent clothing.

highlander, autan used to be my repellent of choice but they have taken out the deet, and it is IMVHO rubbish .also if i am using jungle formula ,it has to be expedition strength as the others have no deet,as grouse says,no deet no good.

Muskol? www.muskol.com/Grouse Grouse, Seems that Ben's originated in Maine and, according to the following web page, should be available from Wal-Mart stores: www.ardernhealthcare.com/story.html
