The moment and so many factors make some fish unforgetable. My first fish on flies of my own tying just happened to be a fantastic fin perfect Brown of 9.25 lbs and still a P.B Brownie that will always be remembered. Whilst having had my share of double fugure Rainbows two stand out: one of about 4lbs that was the most savage take in my experience, fought like it was possesed and snapped a carbon rod in the process - the other was about 1.5 lbs took my fly on its way up, cleared the water to knee high and on the way down my line sstraightened to start a fantastic display of acrobatic action.
In coarse fishing the most memorable has to be a 2.25 lb Perch that fought like a carp of around 6lbs. At sea it would probably be the Thresher Shark whilst Bassing off Portland that snapped me off and was estimated as being 100+.
In the next few days I hope a double figure Barbel is going to try me out?

For me, it's maybe the hardest one that's the best. The one that lies beneath that overhanging branch that will only take a perfect cast. Or maybe it's that growing number of "dream fish" that haunt me, the ones that got away. They are the perfect trout. They beat me and I can only imagine how big they are. Some of them live in places that seldom see an artificial, others dwell in rivers where the most common hatches are Gore-Tex or neoprene. In my mind they're huge and getting bigger with each passing year. I know where every one of them lives and when I return to fish those waters, I always hope for another chance at them. Bill

One that sticks in my memory i did not even attempt to catch. Our local duck pond has some nice Brownies in it and one night as i was walking the dog I watched a trout of about 2lbs feeding in 3 inches of water right at my feet! It was turning small stones and guzzling down what ever turned up. Magic,

A beautiful char caught on a remote Highland loch or any little red spotted fin perfect truly wild brownie from that part of the world. Also the lovely plump butter coloured wild brownies from Ullswater. Such fish knock any pellet fed rainbow into a cocked hat,
